Passkeys and saving new logins

Create and use passkeys in the browser, and save new logins as you sign in.

The extension handles passkeys on the page and offers to save new logins as you go, so your vault stays up to date without extra work.

Create or use a passkey

When a website asks to create or use a passkey, Multifactor shows a prompt:

  • Creating — the site wants to set up a passkey. Choose which account to attach it to and approve.

  • Using — the site wants to sign you in with an existing passkey. Confirm to proceed.

You can switch the selected account before approving, or deny the request entirely.

The passkey prompt

See Passkeys for how passkeys are stored and synced.

Save new logins as you sign in

When you sign in to a site Multifactor doesn't have yet, the extension offers to save the login to your vault. Accept to create the account, or dismiss to skip.

You can turn these save prompts on or off in Settings → Browser extension.
