Passkeys

What passkeys are, how Multifactor stores them, and how to create and use them.

A passkey lets you sign in to a website without a password, using your device's biometrics or a security key. Multifactor can store passkeys for your accounts and use them to sign in.

Create a passkey

Passkeys are created where you can complete the device security check — in the Multifactor browser extension or a native app (desktop or mobile):

  1. On a website's sign-in or security page, choose to create a passkey.

  2. When Multifactor offers to save it, confirm.

  3. The passkey is stored on the account and synced across your devices.

See Passkeys and saving new logins for the extension flow.

View a passkey

Open an account in the web app to see a stored passkey, including the website it belongs to and the username it signs in.

Note: Passkeys can't be edited in the web app. To create new passkeys, use the Multifactor native apps or browser extensions.

Use a passkey

When a website asks for a passkey, approve the request through the Multifactor extension or app. Multifactor proves your identity to the site without revealing a password.
